Air Filters

When you think that the average person breathes approximately 11,000 liters of air per day it really puts it into perspective just how important the quality of the air we breathe is. Many people filter the water in their homes so that the less than two liters of water they drink on average each day is clean and pure, but far fewer have thought about the air they and their families are breathing and installed an air purifier filter. In fact many people may not have even heard of electronic air filters.

There are many varieties of air filters and in general they remove pollutants and irritants like mold spores, dust mites, pet allergens, pollens, volatile chemical compounds, smoke, odors and bacteria from the air you breathe. Many allergy suffers have had great results from installing electronic air filters in their homes, however air filters do not just benefit allergy sufferers. Over fifty percent of toxic pollutants are airborne, so everyone’s health will benefit from a clean air at home.
The most comprehensive air filter systems are the medical grade High Efficiency Particle Air, or HEPA, filters. A hepa air filter will capture 99.97 percent of airborne particles, including bacteria and viruses. They are regularly used in hospitals and operating rooms. The hepa air purifier filter is available for home use as well, with many air filter companies offering medical grade hepa filters in their products.
If you have an air filtration system in your home, it is important to regularly fit an air filter replacement to your unit, as the efficiency of the units will be compromised if filters are left to clog. Similarly it is important to attach furnace air filters to furnaces and filters with high grade filtration to air conditioners, especially if allergens are a problem in the home. Getting an air filter replacement is usually not a problem, as most filter suppliers also have replacements available, there are also specialised companies which provide replacement filters, so you can pick up a Hunter air filter replacement, for example, relatively cheaply.
It is important to remember that it is not only allergy sufferers who benefit from having a home air filter systems. The whole family’s health will benefit from the clean environment provided by an air filter. They are relatively inexpensive for the utility they provide, and if you do suffer from allergies, they are an absolute must.
